UPDATE:

Due to the unforeseen findings at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Avondale Boulevard, it took the contractor a little longer to complete this section. However, the contractor is making up the lost time as he goes north on Avondale Blvd. A lot of that work in the intersection also occurred at night, which might have made it less visible.

The overall project is currently progressing on schedule and just passed installing pipe at the intersection of Avondale Blvd and Corporate Dr. which makes up of 40% of the total project’s construction. With the paving on Van Buren being completed yesterday, the traffic control on Van Buren should be removed soon and the eastbound lanes reopened.

The city is installing a new water transmission line in Avondale Boulevard from I-10 to Van Buren, where it will intercept with an existing line. Just south west of the intersection of Avondale Boulevard and I-10, Salt River Project (SRP) is installing a new well that will be shared with the city. There are two phases to the project:

1. Construct a 12-inch water line on Van Buren street from Avondale Blvd west approx. 600 feet. The new line is to be located on the south side of Van Buren Street (eastbound traffic). Traffic will be restricted to one lane east-bound during construction. Left turns to northbound Avondale Blvd will still be allowed. The contractor anticipates opening Van Buren Street to full traffic movements by 7/15/24.

2. Construct a 12-inch water line on Avondale Blvd from Van Buren Street to I-10 off ramp. The new line is to be located on the west side of Avondale Blvd (southbound traffic). Southbound Avondale Blvd traffic will be restricted to one lane southbound during construction hours, which is 5am to 3pm Monday thru Friday. Outside of construction hours (after 3pm each day and all day on the weekends) traffic control will be pulled back to allow 2 lanes of southbound traffic on Avondale Blvd. Northbound traffic on Avondale Blvd will not be impacted.
