Utility Rates
Public Hearing Scheduled on Proposed Utility Rate Changes
Avondale utility customers are encouraged to learn more about proposed changes to water, sewer, and solid waste rates, which could take effect starting July 1, 2025. A public hearing on the proposed adjustments will be held on May 5, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the Avondale City Council Chamber (11490 W. Civic Center Dr. Avondale AZ 85323).
The City of Avondale is committed to providing safe, reliable, and affordable utility services to its residents, businesses, and visitors. Maintaining these services requires ongoing investment in operations and infrastructure. On March 3, 2025, the Avondale City Council reviewed a presentation on the city's utilities and adopted a notice of intent to adjust water and sewer rates.
If approved, the following changes would take effect:
Solid Waste
- Customers with one refuse container and one recycling container: $1.60 increase per month effective July 1, 2025, and $1.75 increase per month effective July 1, 2026.
- Customers with two refuse containers: $2.56 increase per month effective July 1, 2025, and $2.80 increase per month effective July 1, 2026.
Water
- Water base and usage fees: 6.7% increase starting January 1, 2026, and an additional 6.1% increase effective January 1, 2027.
- Water treatment fee: 7.5% effective January 1, 2026 (to support enhanced treatment, such as PFAS mitigation)
- Water resource fee: 6.2% effective January 1, 2026 (to secure additional water rights)
Sewer
- Sewer base and usage fees: 2% increase effective January 1, 2026, and an additional 2% increase effective January 1, 2027.
- For a residential customer using 9,000 gallons of water per month, these adjustments would result in an estimated total increase of approximately $9.33 per month starting in January 2026 and an additional total increase of approximately $5.09 starting January 2027. The actual impact on individual bills will vary based on consumption.
The Avondale City Council is scheduled to vote on the proposed changes following the public hearing on May 5, 2025. For more details on the proposed rate adjustments, visit www.avondaleaz.gov/utilityrates.
