Avondale Breaks Ground on New Civic Center Park
Avondale broke ground on a new park at the Civic Center Campus. The groundbreaking ceremony with city officials, held Tuesday, September 3, marked the start of this eagerly-anticipated project.
Set to open in 2025, the four-acre Civic Center Park is located adjacent to the Civic Center Library. The park’s design includes seat walls styled as bookends for shaded reading, a shaded playground, walking paths, a ramada picnic area, numerous shade trees, and an open field for various activities. Conveniently situated across from the newly opened Avondale Aquatic Center, which debuted this spring, the completed park will be an exciting addition to the Civic Center Campus. It will provide passive park elements for daily use and new outdoor areas for events, gatherings, and recreational services.
“This new park will be a fantastic addition to our Civic Center Campus, complementing the Aquatic Center and library, and offering a serene space for residents to enjoy,” said Corey Larriva, director of Avondale Parks, Recreation & Libraries. “We’re thrilled that this project will provide a great open space amenity to our community.”
The park's design was developed by J2 Design, with Desert Services International serving as the construction contractor. The total project budget is $4.1 million.
