The network includes around 290 miles of roadway, with replacement costs for major roads ranging from $5-$6 million per mile. Due to these high costs, extending the lifespan of current roads is crucial.

To manage this, the city has implemented a Pavement Management Program (PMP), following the American Public Works Association guidelines. This program focuses on efficient resource use, cost reduction, and extending pavement life by applying traditional and innovative preservation methods. Regular assessments determine maintenance needs and prioritize repairs to maintain streets effectively while optimizing expenditures.

    As part of the Fiscal Year 2024 pavement preservation program, the Avondale City Public Works Department, in collaboration with VSS, will be applying a surface treatment to two stretches of road: Jimmie Johnson Drive, from the bridge to El Mirage Road, and Indian Springs Road, from El Mirage Road to 133rd Avenue.

    Signage will be put up in advance to inform the public of the upcoming work. During the project, traffic control measures will be in place to ensure minimal delays. and work hours are from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Please note that these schedules may change due to unforeseen issues, such as mechanical failures, adverse weather conditions, or delays in receiving materials.

    As part of the FY24 pavement preservation program, The City of Avondale Public Works Department will be completing minor asphalt repairs and applying a Crack Seal treatment from early March to Mid-May during the work hours of 7am to 4:30pm, Monday - Friday. This process with have minimal traffic delays, and signage will be posted at the locations prior to work. We ask residents and commuters to remain mindful of these signs and adhere to any temporary traffic controls. Vehicles remaining in posted work zones are subject to being towed at the owner’s expense. Efforts will be made to ensure that access to homes and businesses is maintained throughout the project duration.

    Maps detailing the project sequence have been included below. Schedules are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances like mechanical breakdowns, weather conditions, and supplier material delays. Public Safety will always be the top priority in completing work.

    • Crystal Park Estates, Work dates 4/24/24 – 4/25/24

    • Garden Lakes – Unit 3 Lot 1-52 TR A & C and the Estates at Garden Lakes. Work dates 4/26/24 – 4/26/24
